Covered in paint while working on a church-led Habitat for Humanity project in 2004, Donna Wood met fellow CPA Sue Smith looking for a new way to serve her clients. Their friendship deepened and they decided to form Wood Smith Associates, a Certified Public Accounting Firm. In 2006, Donna took her four-year old Financial Advisory business and formed Wood Smith Advisors, an independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor Firm. Sue's experience as a small business advisor and tax partner blended well with Donna's financial planning and investment expertise.
A Celtic carving on the end of a pew at their church, Grace Episcopal in The Plains, VA was chosen as their logo symbol. It embodied the unity, solidity, and openness and integrity of the companies they intended to build. Donna and Sue enjoyed a seven-year shared vision of providing objective and custom planning, wealth management and tax services for their clients.
Sue is now executing her own retirement plan (having sold the CPA firm to a newly formed CPA partnership that Sue and Donna facilitated).
Donna continues to build Wood Smith Advisors' independent Registered Investment Advisor practice based upon the values that Donna and Sue embraced.
